Wondering how to hone, expand, and document the many ways you support student success in the classroom? Georgia Tech has moved into a new era of teaching and learning where faculty are expected to demonstrate and document teaching effectiveness and student success. However, questions remain about what constitutes "teaching effectiveness and student success."
The Center for Teaching and Learning is launching a new micro-workshop series to address these questions and provide faculty with an opportunity to engage with CTL and other experienced faculty. Only 30 minutes long, each session will offer faculty a professional development experience that fits into their busy schedules. Full Description of the Teaching for Student Success Micro-Workshop Series:
New in Spring 2023, the Center for Teaching and Learning is offering a series of micro-workshops to support faculty in creating active and supportive classroom environments grounded in best practices. These 30-minute, synchronous, virtual sessions, each offered multiple times throughout the spring semester, break down effective teaching practices into essential skills, methods, and technology that promote student learning and success. We’ll focus on techniques you can use right away, and we'll highlight examples from experienced GT faculty to help you generate ideas.
An important goal of this micro-workshop series is to provide Georgia Tech faculty with ways to document their teaching effectiveness and student success for the RPT process in response to requirements set by University System of Georgia policies. The Board of Regents Policy Manual states that, “Each University System of Georgia (USG) institution shall establish clearly-stated promotion criteria and procedures that emphasize excellence in teaching and involvement in student success activities for all teaching faculty.” Engaging in professional development experiences about best practices in teaching is one type of activity that supports student success. Badges for engagement in the Teaching for Student Success micro-workshop series are available through Canvas to document your professional development in this area.
Format: Each workshop will include an intensive 10-minute presentation on a skill or method, followed by 20-minutes of discussion and application of the topic across different learning environments (e.g., large lecture courses, asynchronous online, hybrid, etc.). All materials will be available for asynchronous access by Georgia Tech faculty after each workshop via Canvas.
Sessions will be offered via Zoom on Mondays at 3:00pm and Thursdays at 11:00am on the following dates:
Theme 1: Teaching Strategies: How can I engage students in large classes?
Theme 2: Documenting Teaching for Student Success: How do I demonstrate my teaching effectiveness?
Theme 3: Building the Course: How do I design my courses to support student success?
Register now for one or more of the sessions. We look forward to engaging with you during the Teaching for Student Success micro-workshop series!
