The TTL Initiative
Experiential Learning in the Classroom
Launched in summer 2023, the TTL Faculty Initiative began with a half-day workshop exploring experiential learning approaches that lead to significant student learning. Participants were invited to develop their own transformative teaching innovation and submit a proposal for the 2023 Innovation Incubator grant. The faculty cohort worked on course redesign tasks in summer 2023 and taught the course in fall 2023.
2024 Theme: Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (CUREs)
While Georgia Tech has long offered opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in scholarly research, much of this occurs outside the classroom, which can lead to disconnection from course-based learning as well as unequal access to opportunities. In spring 2024, faculty were invited to submit proposals to build CUREs -- inquiry-based projects that engage undergraduates in bona fide research experiences within traditional classroom settings -- designed in summer 2024 and delivered in fall 2024 or spring 2025.
2025 Theme: Community-Based Learning -- NEW!
Community-based learning is an educational approach the integrates classroom instruction with meaningful community engagement. It promotes active engagement, collaboration, and practical application of knowledge, fostering a deeper understanding of academic concepts and cultivating civic responsibility among learners.
TTL Results to Date (2023 - 2025)
- 1,900+ students have been impacted by TTL-funded high impact practice courses
- $215k distributed to 19 schools representing all 6 colleges to support 23 TTL projects
- 425+ faculty have participated in a TTL event
Teaching Project Showcase
The course enhancements that are created in each round of the Innovation Incubator grants are reported to the campus community through the Teaching Project Showcase. This online library demonstrates innovations in teaching and learning from several initiatives from the Center for Teaching and Learning
